…Nigerian is third most valuable player in Serie A

VICTOR Osimhen €10m increase from his market value earlier in the year has seen the Napoli forward equals compatriot Wilfred Ndidi in the €60m market valuation.

According to the latest Transfermarkt update, the Nigeria international is the third most valuable player in the Italian Serie A.

The increase also means that Osimhen is the Italian Serie A’s joint-sixth and the world’s 49th most valuable player overall.

At €60m, the 22-year-old is now Nigeria’s joint most valuable footballer and the second most valuable striker in the Italian league.

The Ultimate Strikers Academy product completed a permanent switch to Royal Sporting Charleroi for just €3.5m in 2019 and was valued €40m before joining Napoli in 2020 to become the club’s record signing.

No Nigerian player is worth more than the former Lille man, with Leicester City midfielder Ndidi also valued at €60m.

In the Italian top-flight, only Inter Milan duo of Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella, Juventus stars Matthijs de Ligt and Federico Chiesa, and Lazio ace Sergej Milinković-Savić are priced higher than Osimhen.

And all six stars made the Transfermarkt’s most valuable eleven, with Osimhen set up front alongside Martinez in a formidable lineup that also has AC Milan trio of goalkeeper Maignan and full-backs Hernandez and Calabria.

Osimhen’s excellent showings at the start of the 2021/22 season have boosted his recent ratings, with the Super Eagles striker scoring nine goals in twelve appearances for club and country.
